This reminds me of German socialists and communists thinking “after Hitler, our turn”

This is exactly it. They’re technically correct about Trump being a better option to end the American hegemony, but they’re overlooking the fact that there might not be an America, much less an American working class after the fact.

Also, going after the middle class is a weird take. They’re part of the working class. I balk a little bit when people call something “bougie” for being upper middle class. No, dumbass, boba tea for $10 isn’t an ownership class thing. That’s just the thing they’re selling to working people who think it makes them look more successful. This ridiculous blue collar vs white collar culture war is part of the problem.

Admittedly, so do I, but it’s no way to live. Sometimes, we have to do stuff to achieve stuff. Based on your comment, I’m probably preaching to the choir, but I felt like saying it anyway.

While insisting theirs is the pragmatic materialist view, devoid of idealistic purity tests.

            It’s called dark comedy.

The thing is there’s quite a lot I can agree with on with the politics of empires. however the really seek to simply replace one empire with another and have another global power dominate since it is their the global power instead of the liberal one. It’s incredibly annoying to me because they are more imperialist than the average liberal in the know. (Global communist hegemony by force)

I have a pleasure of talking with one who isn’t quite as crazy as those on .ml, but we have talked about the institutions and politics of empires and how economic systems work. I’ve certainly become more of a socialist and I’ve gotten him to see a lot of the flaws in communist countries and the only one I haven’t really dispelled is Cuba. (I know relatively little about Cuba, and I think the US is a bit harsh towards them. Electoral politics makes it harder to open up to Cuba though)

We both hate Trump with a passion though. Partly because we are both queer, and also that we both hate fascists.

I’ve been considering going and grabbing screenshots of Hexbear promoting Donald before the election, but I dread the thought of actually visiting that cesspool.

Nah, lemmy.ml is the “Flagship” instance run by the head Lemmy devs (who are hardcore tankies)

Grad was created not too long after as a separate instance, but afaik is run by completely different people but share the same ideology and are MUCH worse about it like Hex, they’re very much in your face about it.

Grad, .ml and Hex together form the “Tankie Triad”

Huh, thanks. i thought Lemmy.world was basically the flagship. But yeah I do see a lot of communities are hosted on .ml (and plenty seem decent if they’re about gaming or computing or whatever) so I wasn’t sure. Maybe I just need to filter the politics.
