    Why Josh?

FEMA is stupid and expensive, States Rights to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, I’m sure they have all the money they need to handle their own affairs.

They’ll get it eventually. I wonder what he’ll have to do to get it though. This is what happens when you give a mob boss the purse strings.

Last month, Arkansas’ Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders — who previously served as Trump’s press secretary — issued a letter to the president pleading with him to reconsider FEMA’s denial of an emergency disaster declaration request as the state recovered from a series of tornadoes in March. In her letter, Sanders wrote that “without the support of a Major Disaster Declaration, Arkansas will face significant challenges in assuming full responsibility and achieving an effective recovery from this event,” and that “supplemental Federal assistance is crucial” to recovery efforts.

The declaration was finally issued on May 13, almost exactly two months after the storms hit the state, and a month after Huckabee wrote to the president.

I’m all for disaster relief, but how does “please give us money to pay for this problem so that we can ‘assume full responsibility’ for this problem” make any sense?

Republicans don’t ask for handouts, they ask for your confidence, faith, and trust to manage and grow an investment opportunity.

… It is literally just throw in some other Republican coded words that sound more ‘small business entrepenuer’, and this is sufficient to trick the lead brained, ivermectin enema’d, mouth breathing cult members that make up their core voter base.

I am serious about this, go find a tiktok compilation of Republican small business owners who’ve been fucked over by the tariffs, who either open their video with, or include the phrase ‘I’m not asking for a handout, I’m asking for a handup’ or some other such laughably sophomoric wordplay, when complaining they got what they asked for and now they don’t want it.

The smarter ones know they are being disingenuous, but a shocking number of them really are so stupid that they think using a different phrase to describe the same thing, well that makes it a different thing.

They are so used to having thought terminating cliches and reframing certain discussion subjects with more rhetorically agreeable wordings… from their churches, their media, their political heroes… I really stuggle to describe it as anything other than a kind of learned mental disability.

Well it’s the same as pulling yourself up by your bootstraps! Everyone worth any respect at all has gotta be a self-made man, a rugged individualist, a lone wolf! Help is for snowflakes and libtards, these patriots don’t take handouts, they’d never be caught dead getting bailed out by Uncle Sam, they assume full responsibility! After the real adults solve the fucking crisis, anyway. And rinse and repeat.

It’s cartoon language for cartoon people, from the politicians to the voters and back. Their world view is a 12 year old’s embarrassingly shitty fanfic of reality. Just utterly shameful.

(I know you know all that, that passage just stuck out to me too as egregiously disingenuous double speak and it pissed me right off)

        Edit: spewed more vitriol, lol

What it’s saying is “Without this declaration, we’ll have full responsibility for recovery, which would be difficult”. The implication is that the declaration, and thus the aid, makes them not fully responsible, since they would also be receiving said aid.

If they aren’t providing support to red states they are going to completely refuse blue states. Hope forest fire season isn’t intense on the west coast cuz I think we’re on our own.

While the room is burning with you in it. Is it worth the “I told ya so” if we burn ourselves down? Hopefully people will realize that they fucked up.
