Our car constantly smells, and I’m ashamed to give a ride to anybody. All the usual air fresheners are non-starters because they would kill you or something. You are allowed to use essential oils, but she doesn’t like the smell of most of them, and the one she approved of (rose essential) smells like decayed organic matter in a hot car.

So you’re saying you don’t need an air freshener in the car?

That’s correct. I do not use air fresheners. Most other people’s cars I’ve ridden don’t have air fresheners either and doesn’t smell. The ones that do have them are the ones that smell. You’re just masking it with fresheners, not eliminating the cause of odor.

Great advice! Finding and removing the source of the smell needs to be addressed rather than covering it up. Could try a car detailing shop and see what they say.

Thank you. I’ll look at cleaning my filters and such. It’s only a year old, but we often buy groceries like onions, and I have a 7yo who sometimes makes a mess, and my wife keeps the windows open even when it rains, so there’s all sorts of reasons for it to get stinky.
