I remember Team Fortress 2 has a console command where you could set your voice gain stupidly high and blow out people’s ears by just being in voice chat.

I have ear damage because games love to release nuclear bomb levels of sound when they boot for the first time.

Seriously, this should be illegal. Every game blasts you with full volume and no way to turn it down until later. Then the reasonable setting is like 10%. I’m in the habit of taking my headphones off when I start a new game.

Went shooting with rednecks once. Fun at the time but maybe not a great idea in hindsight.

Maybe she wanted someone who isn’t scared to write pussy or just use a term they are comfortable to use.

Either commit to writing the crude word or just don’t use it.

I am jusy puzzled about the use of “p*ssy”. Either write “pussy” or don’t use the word at all of you too ashamed to write it in full.

Using an asterisk is neither here nor there, wouldn’t you say?

A lot of us do it out of habit from commenting on stupid corporate sites that will shadow-hide “rude” or “vulgar” comments. Self -censoring on those platforms makes absolutely perfect sense, because it can be the difference between ACTUALLY posting a comment, and posting a comment that’s instantly flagged for review and hidden.

Then you fucking ding-dongs come on Lemmy going, “WhY wOuLd AnYOnE dO tHaT?!” and vote them in to oblivion… Fucking losers voting something down just because you don’t understand. THAT is truly the pathetic behavior on display here.

There’s an argument to be made here that you shouldn’t be using vulgar language when you know it’ll be flagged. Just rephrase what you were saying. And if you feel you need to be vulgar in a place where it’s not welcomed, it’s probably not worth saying anyway.

I haven’t downvoted anyone in this thread. You know you can check that, please blow up at someone who did.

And again, in this case, just don’t use rude words in the first place.

Comments saying “You don’t have to self-censor here” and downvotes when you do so are a signal. If the downvotes bother you, you can edit your comment. If they don’t bother you enough for you to make such a small effort, then it shouldn’t matter because downvotes don’t do anything - they don’t reduce visibility to your comment and Lemmy doesn’t have a karma system.

If someone else who would’ve done the same thing sees the downvotes and the comments chiding you, then optimally they’ll realize they shouldn’t do the same thing in the future.

Which part of this do you think is a problem?
