I recently got banned from a dating subreddit and discord for people over 30 and all the admins will say is that I made some people uncomfortable. I’ve been trying to figure out what I did that could have upset people and the one 2 things I can think of was one incident when somebody mentioned I should try dating another male member of the discord server since we had so much in comment and I jokingly explained that I could never date another man because I don’t like the sight of my own genitals so I doubt I would want to see or touch another man’s. That seemed to spark some controversy with some members because I brought up genitalia. I get that I probably could have said it in a classier way, but in a server for people over 30 looking to date, I would assume this wouldn’t exactly be taboo or warrant a ban.
Eh, it’s impossible to be certain.
If the wording of it was the same as here, then it’s a matter of people needing to grow up.
The subject matter of your own dislike of your body part/s is relevant to dating, and since the suggestion you date a man was in play, explaining that it isn’t an option is perfectly appropriate.
You say that the suggestion was done as an attempt at humor, so making your explanation an attempt as well is also appropriate.
So, it really comes down to how you said it.
The way you said it here is very matter-of-fact, so it would be a stretch to assume that’s meant to be funny, which makes me think you said it differently. And it could be phrased in a way that’s very inappropriate in any setting. It could be phrased in a homophobic way, though I doubt that was your intent based on what you’re saying here.
Like, if you said something along the lines of “hey, I don’t even like looking at my own dick, why would I want another one in the mix?”, that’s within normal humor limits. If you said something like “even my own dick is gross, I don’t want to see your scabby dick, fuck off”, that could be an attempt at humor, but it would fall flat 99% of the time, and anywhere it did work would likely not be a pleasant place.
But, no, assuming you didn’t phrase it horribly, and there weren’t rules against discussion of genitals, then a ban would be out of line, unless it was a one day ban combined with an attempt to contact you and sort out what the limits are. Temp bans are a useful tool in cases where a mod needs time to clarify a misunderstanding and prevent things going crazy.
Making people uncomfortable isn’t a good reasoning for a ban unless the behavior was against established policy that the user could access easily. Even then, it should still be a second or third option in line. It sucks to say it, but a lot of people are oversensitive about some things. Prudishness about genitalia is one of those things that are often blown up out of reasonable ranges.
It was something along the lines of " I’m sure we’d make a greate power couple, it’s a real shame I’m outrageously heterosexual🤪" when they first brought up the idea of me dating another man
And when they asked " how do you know if you’ve never tried?" I replied with " problem is…I don’t like seeing my own genitals, I don’t think I could handle another dude’s up close and personal 😅🤪"
That seems well within sane ranges for that kind of subject matter.
People be trippin ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah…doesn’t help that I also attract weird people…
Well, you did attract me to respond, soooo…
But damn, I know exactly what you mean. I can be at the grocery store and all of a sudden I’m hearing about the ananaki or whatever it is, and how the aliens and pyramids are some kind of radio telescope thing.
Like, I ain’t mad about it, I just don’t know how they can tell I’m the sort that will listen and not judge before they launch into whatever it is
I’ve had like 5 customers try to correct me on the spelling and/or pronunciation of my name… Like my own freaking name… How stupid would I have to be not to know how to spell or pronounce my own name?
Oh, holy hell, that’s absurd.
I’m trying not to laugh because it has to really grind after the first few times, but damn. I’ve said it a lot lately, but people be trippin
