“In other news, gen x continues to be ignored. Are those guys even still around?”
They seem happy to be ignored. In my experience they act either like boomers or millennials; depending on which group they are closer to.
You can’t just go around denying generation theory like that! We must have in groups and out groups! The media won’t stand for this insult!

I was born in 81, so which group I “belong” to seems to change depending on who I’m talking to.
An older person will usually say I’m a Millennial and accuse me of being a bleeding heart liberal who’s trying to bankrupt the country, but a younger person will often call me a “boomer” and accuse me of being a right wing conservative who is destroying everything America stands for and is worse than Hitler lol
It’s exhausting quite frankly
hey that’s me! or am I you?
but yes, same. Old people at work shake their head at me. Young people at work shake their head at me.
That said - more and more I find myself relating to the younger ones, even the fresh Zoomers entering the workplace.
Yeah I’m kind of the same lol! Although the Zoomers get really irate when I point out that they’ve over used “boomer” so much that it effectively has no meaning any more lol
Well that became apparent when people started calling Biden a Boomer over student loans or whatever at the time. He’s older than Boomers.
Xennial: came of age in X but adulted as a millennial.
This is me. I have younger siblings who are fully Millenial and one becomes actually offended if you say it. He hates millenials and was basically born a boomer. I have learned that age is biological but becoming old is psychological.
I liked the Oregon Trail Generation. It fits pretty well for this 80’s baby. I also fell like I get along with x and millennial equally.
Working in tech, I’ve been shoulder to shoulder with both a while now. Each generation has it’s quirks, but both want to be seen as individuals with their own motivations and boundaries. Like every other human, those can be wildly different but neither of these two groups seem keen on intentionally shitting on someone’s day.
80 here. I claim xennial. I like the social progress millennials gave us but I can’t stand their culture, especially their comedy. It’s painfully bad. “Gee my life sure does suck!” yeah real funny Hunter, good job.
There are only two genderations!

They can be the forgotten generation 2 electric genXaloo
We’ve mostly grown used to being ignored—why change now?
That’s why they’re the least worst generation, they’ve managed to mostly stay out of the general conversation
Aren’t Gen X-ers basically managerial age right now? Like they’re the ones making the decision for capital that’s owned by the boomers right?
The generation that came of age in the peak of the “greed is good” era?
The generation that came of age in the peak of the “greed is good” era?
I can’t speak for all of Gen X, but speaking for myself and everyone I personally know from my generation: we never liked that shit. That was our parents’ bullshit. We just couldn’t do anything about it, politically speaking, when we came of age because we were firmly outnumbered by boomers. We still are actually, except now we’re also outnumbered by millennials. That’s why all the media discussions of this topic are framed as “boomers vs. millennials.” Gen X is rendered politically invisible by its comparatively small size.
The product of low birth rates and smaller population size. Birth rates are a little lower now, but from a much larger population.
Some of us are just hanging around with old age looming and no money to afford a house or for retirement. We have to keep working until we die, but no one’s going to give us a job until then. The only question seems to be whether death gets us before or after homelessness and starvation.
Normally when I say this someone comes out of the woodwork to say it’s my own fault I haven’t saved up a bunch of money or bought a house. I assume these people are either young or lucky, because life can take unpredictable and expensive turns.
Politically, being financially screwed after growing up with Reagan and Thatcher, and seeing the globally destructive consequences of neoliberalism playing out over decades exactly as expected, actually kills all doubt that greed is bad and more than ever we need a radical left turn.
Gen X is a mixed bag. While some went cheerfully into corporate management and others are established capitalists, a good number are living lives of insecurity while watching the capitalists destroy the world our children already live in.
…gen X here: finally managed a modest house in my mid-fourties but i’ll be working until the day i drop…still fighting the powers that be to little avail, but at last they’re starting to die off…
This is me as well. My sibling is older X, but is much more successful than me, but it wasn’t a hand out by any means.
The youngest are roughly 45 or so and the oldest close to 60.
I think the original nickname was the Baby Bust Generation, as birth rates severely tanked following the Baby Boom period of ‘45 - ‘65.
As a result, they never out numbered the preceding generation, and were pretty quickly overtaken in population by Millennials/Gen Y (kids of Boomers).
Basically, the reason they’re ignored is because they never had sufficient power to make as drastic an impact on society as their surrounding generations.
I like to be called latchkey generation, thank you.
And that’s also how the world sees this cohort: they don’t.
Shhh. Things go badly when they notice us…
What’s Gen X? Are those the people who invented X (formerly twitter)? /s
We’ve never had a numerical majority and never will so at least when we’re older they’ll have to blame the millennials and boomers for our messed up reality.
Vote, vote and vote.
Proportionally … not economically … those old people are going to hang on to every penny until their last breath
Yes and no, they will help their own children indenture themselves to the housing market.
No, they’ll spend all their money on end of life care. Nursing and retirement homes have skyrocketed in price just like everything else. Their money is going back up the chain to the billionaires, not to our inheritance.
Yay, the conservative old people are finally dying!
Get out and vote folks. This is the time when we finally have progress.
Gen X is still bigoted af, and millenial/zoomer white males are still disputed. Not to mention the self-sustaining rural/urban divide.
I’m excited too but not too hopeful.
This is the time when we finally have progress.
hahaha woudnt count on that
When our turn comes, we shall make no apologies for the terrors (we’re gonna kill boca raton timeshare schemes)
GenX here. So, I get to be suppressed by the Boomers my whole life and, just when the pay-out is due to arrive, it will switch to persecution by the millennials as payback for the crimes of my abusers.
Awesome.
Middle child syndrome for an entire generation
…were you hoping for a Boca Raton time share?
What payout?
If your a conservative gen-x then you’ve been winning this whole time, if you’re a progressive genx then things are about to go your way.
Plus I’ve never heard anyone make fun of genx anyways, millennials mostly blame boomers and recognize that genx never had a chance.
…culturally, millenials are an echo of the baby boomers and i expect they’ll go the same way as they age out: there will be no progressive flourish, they’ll just shift its branding to embrace their own status quo…
…washed-up wannabe-hippie sellouts are a perennial refrain throughout history…
things can change dude, have some faith, fight the fight, wait and see.
Ive had conversations with boomers and millennials about the same topics and the sentiments have been very different in my experience.
Also its easy to be complacent and conservative when you have money and a comfortable lifestyle, which most of the milenials I know have never had.
I agree with the sentiment but I think there are key differences in generations. Thus far inaction has been a characteristic. Millennials have been a large enough cohort already to be making waves of change in this world. What has happened is naught but everyone waiting for the big moment when the big bad boomers just sort of go away or something. And then things will magically fix itself.
If there is any cause for much optimism for this generation we would have already been seeing massive changes under way. Instead we have marginal statistical increases in such things as polling progressively or voter turn out. That’s not exactly things to be patting yourself on the back for when you’ve been old enough to vote for 10 - 20 years. Certainly not if one is expecting something drastically different than baby boomers.
Combine that with the individualism which what I think sets the generation apart from the baby boomer. I think this generation is too self-involved that’s why there has been seemingly no collective actions. There’s wasn’t some big giant boomer conspiracy to fuck everyone over for the past 50 years. Though you’d that way with how millennials talk about it. This generation has thus far can barely be assed to accomplish coming out and voting for common interests. That’s simply what the boomers have been doing.
There’s advice I heard several years ago on the topic of political activism. There are local meetings and such out there but nobody shows up. Almost always everyone is sitting at home. The younger generations are waiting for someone to call them and tell them what to do. And it’s true. You have to tell them exactly what to do and keep reminding them.
Not surprisingly that’s how both sides (for real this time) won their respective elections with Obama and Trump. A success of the Obama campaign which is largely overlooked in social media discourse but what they did with younger generations was groundbreaking digital outreach. Then we saw the Republicans do the same in their own way by making the GOP fashionable among younger conservatives.
Chill with the victim complex man, millennials aren’t coming for you.
Hey don’t be hasty if they keep up with this attitude, I sure am. Like sorry late stage capitalism sucks, quit asking if I got coke but thanks for REM
I take it that means boomers are dying? Last I checked the youngest millennials are over 30 and neither faction can increase their numbers.
Immigration is a thing but yeah probably mostly boomers dying.
the future is now old man
Now they just have to vote.
What about Gen X? Seriously, there’s an entire generation in the middle there.
Who?
The generation that made coffee and Bill Murray the foundation of their personalities
We never had the numbers to outnumber either of the giant generations on either side of us
My dad is a weird mix of voting for an obscure explicitly communist party while complaining how socialism ruined everything.
He expresses literal anti fasicm on principle but thinks of antifa as a violent mob.
He believes there is a woke agenda trying to manipulate society but he cant explain what woke is besides refering to cases of forced political correctness or brands changing their profile pictures to pride, he has no issues respecting lgbt, nature and is so much not a christian, he went out of his way to get debaptized.
I cant get him of Facebook, he is addicted. I told him i was probably going to delete mine this year, he told me he is certain id be back in a few weeks like his genx mates… i havent visited my profile in over 3 years, its only the familie groups chat messenger left on it. I told him but it doesn’t compute that anyone can exist without.
In all seriousness i think there better of as the forgotten generation, technically they are allies and i am certain they have roles, positions and effects on society just like every generation. But we need a real change, a break with the old, we cannot do that by lething the brainwashed lead us.
You should feel sorry for the Gen Xers. Think of how hard it is to deal with Boomers now. Now imagine being a teenager and having your thirty- to forty-something Boomer parents completely crush you over their political beliefs.
Excellent! Once their numbers are low enough, we can just drown the rest.
If we wanted.
I shall make an exemption for my mother and shelter her in my attic, but the rest of them will swim.
The American sphere of influence is palpable here. Trudeau, Poilievre, and Singh are all gen-x. The average age of politicians here is not as geriatric as American congress.
Soylent green is people?
We must hold a vote: Do we liquidate the assets and organs of everyone over 60?
✅ YES
