Scarlett Johansson plays an asian person for Ghost in the Shell: This is racist!
Any number of other races play a white person e.g. The Little Mermaid: This is progressive!
Both are absolutely fine. Actors can play anyone. It’s their job. Hollywood using race changes to drum up controversy and make more money is entirely at fault. No wonder they’re too greedy to even pay their writers properly.
The ghost in the shell one is extra funny because the character is basically a human consciousness in a totally robotic body and she can have (and indeed has had) different bodies that may or may not be her original body. I think they make it more concrete, but at one point even her original sex was called into question.
The Major could have been played by anyone, and they could have just said it was the robot body she was swapped into.
It’s money. It’s always money.
I’m all for character diversity but frankly they still have to have this thing called being a good character. And being a person of color or whoever they are isn’t a character trait
Edit: not a character trait on its own. But it can be used in interesting ways. For example I saw an ad for this one tv show where a black woman travels back in time to the colonial era and has to deal with prejudice and slavery which seems like not checking the inclusivity box but then also using it to make a really interesting premise. And characters made to be inclusive don’t even have to be that complex or central, like I said before, they should be good characters
This. But I still really hate the way anti sjw behave because they don’t wanna see good characters, they just don’t want to see people of races other than white people in a film
Look at her fucking skin color. She’s not fucking brown. These people…
What do they want, an albino?
No, they want a Indo-European that is tall, light-complexioned, blonde, blue-eyed. It’s that simple! /s
I did Nazi that coming!
Should’ve looked a bit fuhrer ahead.
Taylor Swift?
When was this tweet actually? Musk is so stupid
I find it pretty annoying how people make sure to crop out all dates. I guess it makes it easier to repost for years and years.
That must be it.
How embarrassing.
I literally quit watching Marvel movies at that scene when Tony Stark kisses his ass. I didn’t realize that that was a breaking point in the moment, but I have never managed to get up even the slightest bit of interest in a Marvel movie since then.
They were his human bidet for years, and just zero loyalty from this guy.
I have no idea what you are talking about. Stark kisses “his” ass, what ass is that?
If you mean Musk, I have no recollection of that.
It was in one of the Iron Man movies, 2 I think - Tony Stark is arriving at a restaurant and Musk is there as himself. They shake hands as congenial colleagues, Musk proposes an electric jet cause he’s king electricity (much like Edison was…) and Stark puckers up with “If you thought of it, we’ll make it work.”
edit: here ya go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfiRd4Y5z_g
Wow thank you. I looked it up, it was Iron man 2 in 2010. ( The caption for the clip is wrong )
Back in 2010 I think most of us still thought Musk was a progressive visionary. Personally It’s not until about 2016 it really became clear to me that he isn’t. He is a narcissist, who has no decency, and generally shows disrespect towards basically everybody. But happened to be born filthy rich, and have success with his business. As most narcissists he can con you for a while.
Regarding the Cameo, I can forgive them, although in general I hate the Cameo concept, of a celebrity appearance in movies. It’s generally goofy, and it generally subtracts from the movie.
If you saw Musk for what he is already in 2010, that was very well spotted IMO.
It was the solar road tiles/solar roof tiles for me. I only know the barest tiny bit about solar panel design, but I do know that they are waaaaaaay more efficient when large, and also that anything a car drives over thousands of times a day/hour is gonna get clouded up fast. The road ones especially, no, what we do is, we build large panels that span the entire sky of the road, and as a bonus, riders get sunny day scenery to either side and a nice cool car/bus/train.
I didn’t consider him stupid for having the idea, but we both know he ran it by his actual engineers and they either got fired telling him no or just said yep you’re brilliant boss, and either way, he stuck his whole ass out that day. I had not looked into him up until then but I then did an assessment - my observation was that he looks like a billionaire simpleton, the opinion of the public was that he was a genius, so I went and looked for any sign of genius, or even basic intelligence, to balance the simpleton evidence, found none, and have been going with my assessment ever since. He has not let me down, I wish there had been a bet I could have placed.
I don’t recall solar roads as a Musk thing, although I clearly recall the idea as outright moronic for many reasons.
The tile sunroof thing however I do recall that Musk promoted, and I was a bit skeptic, the idea may have some merit, but basically only if you build a new roof, and even then it tends to still be way to expensive.
he ran it by his actual engineers and they either got fired telling him no or just said yep you’re brilliant boss
Now I too know that’s what he does.
he looks like a billionaire simpleton
I thought he was brilliant, because he was the first to make electric cars that were actually cool. He was also the first to make electric cars with a path to profitability, and although they were initially to expensive for mainstream, the idea was to make the technology cheaper, and work their way to mainstream, which he actually did.
To enter a new unproven market takes guts and foresight, either that or being an eccentric with a lot of arrogance. I have come to realize that it was probably mostly the last that he had in spades. Still I was a fan of the concept of electric cars to reduce pollution. And I still respect his efforts to make that a reality, and I still believe he pushed that development forward by about a decade.
going with my assessment ever since. He has not let me down, I wish there had been a bet I could have placed.
Yes he really turned out bad, I was absolutely no fan of his space adventures as plan B. That’s outright moronic too. When he called the British diver a Pedo, it became clear to me he was a narcissist. Now he is all over the place, calling everything non white for anti white, like a little good apartheid South African. And everything that doesn’t discriminate is basically woke. I never imagined he could be this disgusting as a human being. Even for a narcissist he is bad. And that’s probably only allowed by the enormous amount of privilege he has had all his life. It’s a lot like Trump, who is also a narcissist born with enormous privileges.
Ironically, I’m speaking to you via Starlink, so his space company is the one that I have some use for, at least until the new Fibre company gets here and hooks us up. :>
Obviously Starlink has actual uses. It’s the idea of preparing for Mars as a plan B for humanity. That’s utterly moronic. If we destroy the earth, there is no possible plan B for humanity. We may be able to send people to Mars to survive a few generations, but it will take centuries to be able to make a self sustained colony. Making people work on that now, misses the point of actually saving the earth from the eminent dangers we are creating.
Kisses his ass?! How about “was dismissive and borderline rude”. If anything was to make me feel sorry for Musk, that scene was it. He’s like a pasty little kid running up, “Mr. Stark! Mr. Stark! You’re TOTES my hero!”
Yes, I kind of got that vibe too. I don’t feel sorry for musk though, he got his cameo and free advertising that helped his image.
Home Alone 2 has been compromised too
I had never seen those movies until my FiL wanted to watch em last christmas, so that was a real driveby.
His fucking one word or single emoji replies are pretty much the worst.
If writers started only writing original characters for PoC, these halfwits would be even more angry.

So that little girls of color get to see a protagonist that they can relate to. White shouldn’t be the default and Snow White’s whiteness isn’t actually a defining characteristic of hers. It’s inclusivity, not white erasure.
Snow White’s whiteness isn’t actually a defining characteristic of hers.
Here’s a quote from the (translated) original German tale: “[A queen] had a daughter, with a skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony, and she was named Snow-white.” That’s pretty much her definition
It isn’t really central to the content of her character or the story, though.
Are you absolutely sure that "Snow White"s whiteness is no defining characteristic of hers? I mean sure, change Ariel or whoever, but “Snow White”?
This is a new level of blatant and boring racism. If someone has a surname of brown, do they need to be non white? Weirdo shit.
“Snow White” is the name of the princess because of her alabaster skin. It’s in the story.
“How I wish that I had a daughter that had skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony.” Some time later, the queen dies giving birth to a baby daughter whom she names Snow White.
Sure, it doesn’t matter that she’s white, but this story specifically makes it a topic of the plot. There’s no reason to forcefully change this specific story. You can change literally any other story where it’s not a plot point.
But it has no actual impact on the story. If the characters within the story find her skin to be attractive, that’s all you need. White/alabaster was originally chosen because of the values those writers had. These writers have different but equally valid values.
There is no objective measure of beauty in this world. It’s all down to taste and preference.
Yeah, I completely agree, but then the story shouldn’t be about or called “Snow White and the seven dwarfs”. It’s just illogical.
Just FYI, the surname “White” comes from the same place that “Black” does, whitesmithing and blacksmithing. If we’re being pedantic, we have to assume that Snow White’s ancestor worked in tin and silver and not assume that she was given an arbitrary surname because her parents somehow knew she would have alabaster white skin.

I’m all for inclusivity and in most cases the race of the cast doesn’t matter. Make little mermaid black, have Cinderella be brown, have Cinderella be whatever. Or better yet, make new stories with varied cast. But in this case however, it’s literally in her name. She was named that because of her skin white as snow.

They didn’t change her skin color. Just look at a picture of Rachel Zegler. She’s half-Swedish FFS.
Why does skin color even need to be changed? Why can’t they make new characters of different skin colors, genders and sexualities? Honest question.
Why did they change Ariel’s skin instead of just making a new little mermaid? Would have caused way less of an uproar from the retarded right wingers and black peoples still get their representation.
Because it’s ten thousand times easier and more profitable to market a property that already exists than something new.
Why do you think remakes and reboots exist at all?
The little mermaid already existed. They could easily just make a new character.

Did you read what I wrote?
There are two separate things here. The IP for little mermaid, and Ariel. I’m talking about changing the movie so it’s not Ariel, but some other mermaid.

You are fucking retarded.
No. I’m saying make a new little mermaid movie. Make the main character black. Just don’t call her Ariel. No one would give a shit then, minorities get representation, the movie makes a billion dollars, everyone is happy.
How about we remake the color purple but only cast Asian people?
Are you really complaining that they are not using the correct skin color of a mermaid?
Not in the slightest. There should be mermaids that represent every color, ethnicity, and gender.
I just don’t understand why they need to change a character that was established in the past. Just make a new character with a new name.
They didn’t change Peter Parker to be black, they made a new character named miles and guess what? It’s the most successful example of using an established ip to create a new character to represent minorities. The first into the spider verse is my favorite movie of all time.
Elon keepin it real.
Real dumb.
