Because some people get food aggressive, and even a mention of a sustainable diet that doesn’t depend on cruel treatment of animals get them all riled up

I’ve yet to meet a vegan that just casually mentions they’re vegans. There’s always some form of annoying behavior attached.

Maybe there are people you’ve met that you don’t know are vegan because they don’t bother mentioning it.

Though if just announcing they’re vegan annoys you, you could be the problem.

My wife is allergic to dairy, and the shorthand for dairy-free in many instances, is vegan. She’s definitely gotten the stink eye from some people when ordering that option, even though we’re both only part-time vegetarians and not preaching about it.

I know a handful of vegans who don’t make annoying people their one personality trait.

Again, in a normal conversation, warning your host about your allergies or food preferences is fine. If vegans could keep it at that it’d be great

Let me put it this way:

Nobody ever went out of their way to annoy me for eating a salad.

Exactly. I didn’t realize a large chunk of my coworkers were vegan until we were about to order a company lunch. I did realize one of my remote coworkers was vegan because she mentioned it all the time.

There’s a lot of truth to the jokes about vegans self-announcing when food isn’t being discussed at all. The same goes for Arch users, atheists, and other passionate groups.
