“Attention to all blacks who plan to vote for Trump,” the sign outside New Era Baptist Church reads, “you are an ignorant stupid negro.” The other side says, “Warning African Americans: A vote for Trump will put Blacks back to picking cotton.”
Not a fan of that rage-bait head-line.
Big difference between n - - - - and n - - - - -.
The latter is a slur, and arguably is currently the most vulgar word in the English language.
The former is considered archaic (at worst) in English, but completely ordinary in Spanish.
It’s considered archaic at best not worst.
That word may be ordinary in Spanish, but something tells me (the complete lack of other Spanish words, as well as the context) that in this case it was meant in the “archaic” form.
Also idk if it’s “archaic at worst,” “at worst” it is still a slur in many contexts. Like, you can talk about The Negro League in historical context referring to baseball and be completely fine, but you absolutely cannot go up to someone and say “What up my Ne–o” (gonna bleep that one, but leave enough context so you can tell it’s not intended to be the other one.) “You are an ignorant stupid ne–o” seems to fit squarely in the context of slur to me and imo its use here is in bad taste at best and frankly I think it is racist.
Not that I disagree with hating trump, I just think hating trump so hard you become racist isn’t really a good solution to the problem, and the church could probably rework that sign.
I agree with the sign, but churches must stay out of politics. It’s time that churches stop being tax exempt.
I mean I agree with the sentiment, but churches have been openly discussing and endorsing specific political views and candidates for quite a while now, and this trend is getting more and more widespread and extreme.
Nobody actually enforces the Johnson amendment.
Which is why should all just be taxed.

Local Trump supporters expressed opposition, including, Daxton Kirk, who told WZDX he reached out to city officials regarding the sign.
“You should not be able to come into a building and feel like you are hated or diversified just because you came here to worship the Lord,” Kirk said.
fukkin self-awarewolf
This church hurt my feelings so their First Amendment rights should be violated.
I agree that churches playing politics should be taxed as long as the law is applied consistently. With 100% certainty this Trumper would shit his pants in rage if the such justice occurred to a MAGA church.
In fact, all churches should be taxed. Those doing charitable work can apply for the nonprofit status like everyone else.
According to US case law. The power to tax is the power to destroy, so the state government cannot tax federal government.
There are several arguments for taxing church and I can’t help but think that soon we will be just having a closer relationship between church and state if the pastors start pandering for the current government.
Oh yes, just because they want to worship the lord.
That’s the reason.
Yup.
This church has an almost entirely black congregation and is led by a black pastor. I am A+ 100% OK with them using edgy language to call out racism. I’m glad they’re being so vocal about it.
It sounds harsh, but that’s just how Alabamans talk to black people.
PS: Bring back? When did it leave?
I sure do hope Trump’s hiring a racist comedian and Speaker Johnson’s self-defeating stupidity is enough to overcome Democrat’s self-defeating stupidity.
Tax exempt says what?
Ah, Baptists … Looney’s second to Pentecostals
Whomever came up with this should be investigated for voter intimidation. Threatening people with slavery if they don’t vote for your preferred candidate is not only stupid but illegal.
Don’t go there, that ally is very dangerous, you will get mugged.
It’s not a threat, it’s a warning about other people.
It’s intimidation and I’m sick of people on both sides pretending that it’s okay to intimidate and threaten people about who they should vote for.
Intimidation. Noun. The act of making timid or fearful or of deterring by threats; the state of being intimidated.
Threat. Noun. An expression of an intention to inflict pain, harm, or punishment.
It’s not an intention, it’s information. You won’t do anything, you are saying that, without any interaction, someone else wants and will do that.
I understand disliking that, but it’s not a threat.
Intimidation doesn’t require a direct threat and you should know this. All it requires is a statement intended to make people fear for their safety.
Behold, intimidation.
Stop threatening me! /s
If you put that at a voting site or said people would die of high voltage because of voting for Kamala then yes that could constitute voter intimidation. You think I’m saying this only to help Trump? I’m saying it is a problem from both Republicans and Democrats. Why are you so offended about that?

I’m starting to fear for your safety if you don’t cut the shit friend
You don’t need to worry about me but thanks for caring
you’re implying the church somehow has the power to bring back slavery. if they don’t, then your whole argument makes no sense because CLEARLY the intent would be to inform.
by your logic you could argue that fire alarms are likewise a tool for intimidation. sure, it’s meant to inform you of a danger for your own personal safety, but what if there is no danger and they’re just intimidating you into leaving?
