Hey folks,
The beta for v3.0 contines, and the Cleric is inching closer to release. I’ve also made some improvements to in-game visuals recently too! Here’s a look at Shattered Pixel Dungeon’s new title graphic that I just added to the beta a couple days ago!
Just like the splash arts, this title is made by Aleksandar Komitov, and is an attempt to improve the title quality while keeping true to the original design. There’s still a 3 line version for portrait users too.
(Image Description: Shattered Pixel Dungeon’s new title graphic in an animated GIF. The text has glowing etches in it, and two green pixellated flame effects on either side.)
Looks good, but I’ll always be a sucker for the original though. Too much nostalgia.
Any thoughts on expanding the amount of floors the whole dungeon goes down? I mean it was challenging the first time but after a while it tends to get a bit stale. Love the new title though, reminds me of older rpgs.
Yup it gets stale after the first win and I dont know what to do after. Wish there’s more boss and floors unlocked after getting the amulet so I can keep playing, just like other roguelikes
How many challenges have you won with? I have played for several years now and haven’t beaten all the challenges yet. I find the game boring with less than 5/6 challenges now lol.
I see the challenge descriptions after getting the amulet, but it’s demotivating to try and I quit after… IMO they’re not the fun kind of difficult and poorly made, with some exceptions like badder bosses
Honestly, the game feels dumb way without some challenges. Reduced food makes so much sense, as well as the one where they swarm you, (the AI is already very simplistic and easy to manipulate, swarming helps even things out). Pharmaphovia and faith is my armor I find least interesting.
Dev comments in their plan for this year has relevant points that I’ll quote here.
Halls Quest
While I don’t want to make the game overly long, a bit more gameplay at the tail end of the game is sorely needed to give players a bit more time with finished builds and time to make use of armor abilities. I have a few ideas for interesting quests that could test an endgame character.
Alt Paths?
Another common request is to have more dungeon floors, but just adding more risks making the game too long. An alt path could offer new environments and enemies without making the game directly longer. This would be a huge time commitment though, so I’d only really consider it when ShatteredPD is otherwise finished.
Endless Mode
Some form of endless mode is a very common request. This partly ties in to the last region of the game being the shortest, but also there’s just a desire for players to see how far they can get with strong character builds. I have a few loose ideas for how endless might work, but want to focus on other things like new quests first.
Note that in that post, Evan said those items are “definitely” not in 2025, but are longer term plans.
Yeah, I forgot about that. I just remember there were some pertinent parts and quoted it.
Thanks dude, and quick to 👍 😀
Turn on some challenges and try to get the million score achievement.
Wow that looks really great!
Looks great!
I really like it! It’s a lot more readable than the really bulky font of the current one!
Yeah one of the major goals here was to keep some of the bulky feel while making the text a lot more readable.
Dang I’m desperate to try it but seems it does not allow me to have the beta and the normal one together. Or is there a trick?
That is correct, the beta install overrides the live one. Once the beta ends you can seamlessly transition back to live release though (e.g. v2.5.4 -> v3.0.0-BETA -> v3.0.0), and generally the beta is very stable after the first day.
It looks good. I don’t know why, but it has the feeling of "Shattered-pixel dungeon " instead of “Shattered pixel-dungeon”. But maybe it’s just me
But it’s supposed to… ? This version of Pixel Dungeon is “Shattered Pixel”. Evan even uses a shattered pixel as the icon for the about button on the home screen, and also in the patch notes.
To be fair, people often just call it “Shattered”, and it’s definitely a branch of Pixel Dungeon. I think the ambiguity of the wording is maybe part of the point.
