Been a minute since I’ve read up on the Yugoslav wars, but are we sure this alliance is primarily worried about Russia and not that place in the middle there?

I introduced my Croatian friend to my Serbian roommate about a week into arriving in Germany, thinking they’d hit it off and be excited for a common language.

They were both kind and very firm about how differently the interaction might have gone if they were slightly different people.

They did eventually become friends, but I also eventually met my roommate’s parents and got a better understanding of the older generation.

Honestly only the dumbest fucks still keep up the grudge. It’s literally the same type of person that gets attracted to populism, e.g. Trump – got instilled strong sense of nationalism, everyone’s wronging us, etc.

I am 2nd gen diaspora and really tired of the circus. I have tried to read up on the Yugoslavian war to come up with an objective picture, and it is wild how differing takes you get from people.

There are certain actors that are trying to ”Make Serbia Great Again”, and of course there is the short-sighted knee-jerk reaction on the ”opposing” side in neighboring countries. There have been violent border incidents spawning out of nowhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is all a facade to draw attention from the country’s internal political issues.

It was a horrible war instilled by a handful of people, there were no true winners, and people who were once treating each other like brothers and sisters were turned against each other. Anyone trying to instill the hatred and bitterness, especially OUTSIDE the area, is an idiot.

The Serbs I’ve talked to online and a couple in person seemed ambivalent about taking responsibility at best. They are generally more pissed about the NATO intervention into their genocide SMO, and overblow how much death it caused compared to the death they (former yugo states) inflicted amongst themselves. I am confident Russia uses this as a wedge issue to their advantage these days.
