Luckily I haven’t really had people post rule-breaking content in my communities. Nobody posting bitcoin spam, being nasty towards other users, or breaking a rule that you cannot just assume exists (I’d assume “do not be mean, do not spam/post on-topic things” to be universal) and would have to actually read the sidebar for (like no posts about humans in bunny suits in [email protected]). I was wondering if this is most mods’ experience on Lemmy.
Normally not much, but we’ve seen a big uptick in transphobia in wake of the Supreme Court ruling here which hasn’t been fun.
A lot. Most, if not all come from c/mentalhealth, users telling depressed people to “luigi themselves” or actually give instructions to commit suicide.
Beyond it; besides the occasional low-quality post, pretty much never.
Tf is wrong with people?
Small communities don’t see much of that because only people actively subscribing usually get to see the posts. But once a community gets big enough for upvotes causing it to show up in the all feed on other instances the trolls and debate-bros show up.

It’s not often but just recently a post on c/CuratedTumblr got people fucking HOT for a second there I finally just locked it because these people can’t behave.

And I’ve got a couple thoughts:
- Most of the conversation was actually pretty civil and a pretty insightful discussion on social norms vs personal comfort and the boundaries people set.✅️
- Not sure how I feel about the top comment’s use of the word cunt. On one hand OP nor anyone else seems to have taken offense (no one reported it) which implies to me that it’s usage is pretty low on the… slur-o-meter? (which is also the vibe I got from it personally) but I did also say I won’t tolerate people actually calling each other slurs… my decision on that has been that the first report I get I’ll remove it.
- The person calling the other person a retard was an obvious removal. However in retrospect I should have banned that person immediately since in the same comment they also told the other person to kill themselves, especially since they went on to tell another person to kill themselves in the same thread the next day. That person is now permanently banned.
- The whole DragonRider thing has been ongoing and taken me a while to piece my thoughts together but I guess the best way I can sum it up is that pretty much every online community has trolls and at least that one is almost impeccably polite for being that devoted to the bit. At that point it’s barely even trolling and more of just a little bit of flavor. Certainly haven’t ever gotten a report on a comment from that account telling people to kill themselves. It’s one of those “I may as well vaguely piss everyone off equally with this decision kinda things,” especially since there’s arguments to be made for transphobia four both blocking and not blocking that account when I’m pretty sure causing that argument in the first place is the point of the bit. Everybody wants me to ban each other over dumb shit when “don’t feed the trolls” is basically part of aesops fables at that point and block buttons have been around almost just a long and make it super easy to just not interact with accounts you personally dislike or find annoying. A few months back people started reporting each other because they were arguing over whether or not tumblr prose was scientifically accurate. Just… why?
I almost wish I could block accounts for other people. Like putting kids in different playpens at the daycare.

The number of people who never block things they don’t like, but take it as a personal mission to downvote every single thing they see is just astonishing… forget the negativity, surely they would rather spend their time on things they actually like?
Yeah, haven’t had to remove too much so far. Mostly just a few off-topic or obvious spam posts. Then again, the communities I moderate aren’t that large.
