Hexbear is composed of leftists of all shapes and sizes

Well, that’s a big fat lie, unless they literally mean their physical shapes and sizes. Ideologically they are all in lock-step, they can’t be anything else, since a strict rule of indoctrination by ban has always existed on that instance.

To be fair, they do have the one token anarchist that shows up whenever they brigade a community. Any anarchist that would willingly hang out with MLs seems pretty sus to me, though.

I’d agree some semblance of left unity would be valuable if tankies actually had left leanings other than saying they support lgbtq. they don’t even actually support lgbtq because they constantly deny any allegations of their favorite authoritarians having any ill intentions towards the group. also they are adamant that china is doing nothing bad to Uyghurs, and that Russia is fully in the right invading Ukraine. Tankies are fucking dumb

My favorite is when tankies don’t have any other enemies, and you can watch them tear each other apart over whether LGBT people are people, or whether their ‘comrades’ in the developing world are right about Western degeneracy destroying their good, cis-straight cultures.

It’s astounding to watch so many LGBT tankies sudden realize they would get the bullet in an instant, and immediately do nothing with that information.

I really don’t understand why so many trans individuals state their alliance with tankies, when any government tankies support are totally fine with murdering them.

They’re okay with ragging on the US’ problems against the LGBT+ community (and there are many such problems to rag on), but conveniently ignore things like gay and trans people being killed in droves in Chechnya.

Might be that the total subsumption of all issues to class means that LGBT people can feel more welcomed in tankie communities as individuals because tankie communities don’t regard the issue as of importance. Rather than feeling the sting of rejection in right-wing communities (and there are a terrifying number of right-wing LGBT folk) or the strong emphasis on LGBT community and culture in many left-leaning communities that may leave some feeling ‘out of the loop’ and depersonalized, even if that’s not the general feeling or the intent.

Alternatively, LGBT people are just people, and people are often dumb. Whichever.

They’re communist, thats what makes them left wing.

Yall are so quick to say anything bad is right wing, it turns into denial.

they call themselves communist because they align with ‘communist’ authoritarian regimes. that doesn’t make them left wing. at most they could be knocked to centrist for being socially leftish while politically authoritarian right

I’m of the opinion that left/right has become strongly economic in its connotations, and therefore, tankies, as anti-capitalists, are still strongly left. Just, y’know, being stupid about it.

Always have been. It’s just mushed together with other axes due two USA’s two-party system which makes politics seem one dimensional.

Not always. The original left/right dichotomy was from the French Revolution, after all, where the main point of contention was political power, not economic power.

Honestly, this whole “what team are you really on?” discourse is kinda annoying.

Like, can anyone properly define left, center, and right?

Sure, but you’d have to accept that it’s all relative. A left-wing position in Saudi Arabia is not necessarily a left-wing position in the USA.

Left/Right originated as change vs. conservatism, but with the rise of the revolutionary right-wing (fascists) and ideological reactionaries, it has morphed to generally mean Anti-Hierarchy vs. Hierarchy.

Most prominent in this is in economics - those who are ideologically left support systems which, in theory, do not lend hierarchical power to any given individual or class. Those who are ideologically right support systems which unambiguously do. As such, ideologies which aim to reduce economic hierarchy - from Social Democracy seeking to lessen the coercive aspects of capitalist wealth, to Marxist-Leninists asserting that state socialism totally is above board and not a vanguardist power play, to full-on-ancoms seeking a society from each according to their ability, to each according to their need - are left. Ideologies which seek to preserve or increase economic hierarchy - neolibs at its most mild, ancaps, fascists, and corporatocrats at its most severe - are right.

It’s just f’ed up that economically left and economically right nation-states are in joint agreement of wanting all of us in the LGBT+ community to die.

I agree that its realitive, but tbh it kinda seems like you took “Left is inherently good, right is inherently bad” and then defined around it. Communism (or more specifically, Stalin) is slavery to the state, and thats definitely a heirarchy and definitely left wing.

I mentioned that Marxist-Leninists (‘Communists’ in common parlance) are ideologically left, even though in practice their system is dogshit.

I’m with Andrewism on the whole “left unity” thing. The left never was, never will be, and doesn’t need to be unified. We can just collaborate (or not) with those of other political persuasions on a per-project basis.

The reason tankies push “left unity” is because they plan to be in charge of the unified left. Fuck that noise, we don’t need it.

Left Unity is valuable… when it’s not just an excuse for tankies and trolls to drive off everyone else so they can enjoy their circlejerk until they realize one of their own has a slightly different opinion and needs to be sent to the GULAG.
