Stayed in bed for an extra 15 mins looking through lemmy and ended up 30mins late to work.

Side question, why do people warm up their car? I turn it on and drive straight away, is this bad for the engine?

It used to be bad for the engine, but modern engines are less susceptible to issues from running cold. These days it’s about not getting into an icy cold metal box, and defrosting the windows.

I did that this morning because it was a frost, starting it and letting it run with the heater on means the windscreen will start to defrost while you’re getting ready. It also means the car is warm when you get in it.

If you live right next to a high speed road, starting the vehicle and immediately giving it full beans to merge into high speed traffic isn’t ideal, otherwise it doesn’t really make much difference.
