Like I said above. Most of the subscriptions that I had as of this morning now are no longer showing up.

Searching for communities I know exist do not show up in search results. Switching to a lemmy.world account lets me search the community and it returns in results.

Checked multiple apps, same results.

Currently using Memmy and I’d deleted and reinstalled it, and when I was re-adding sh.itjust.works I noticed it now shows this instance no longer allows user created communities. I’m assuming that was probably due to the bot accounts spam creating communities earlier this week. Could this be why I can only see a very small number of communities now? Or is it unrelated?

Could it be related to the update that just went out?

Or was there some defederation that just happened?

Edit: formatting

Edit 2: as of several minutes ago, instances now show up in my subscriptions list, and I am now able to search for instances in Memmy, Mlem, and Thunder. Wefwef has been working since yesterday. Liftoff still shows a null value. I have not updated any apps yet, tho Memmy and Mlem do show updates now, so I guess I’ll pull them.

Edit 3: still seems to be working post update.

I think it’s an incompatibility with 0.18.1. If I switch to an account on an 0.18.0 instance they show up.

Edit: searching communities also doesn’t work it seems

I’m not seeing new posts in some communities i’m subscribed to.

When i go view the community directly on the hosting instance, it’s full of activity and users, but when i look at it through sh.itjust.works there are very few users and no new posts

Started happening a few days ago

I’m seeing the same thing, and I’m on a different instance. I think it’s probably a Memmy issue. My other account on another instance with Wefwef seems fine.

Logging into lemmy.world in Memmy has no issue.

As of this morning, logging into wefwef with sh.itjust.works seems to work fine. All my subscriptions appear there.

So it may be an inconsistency between the app, and the server’s update that prevents the display and search of certain communities.

    Update: it’s all working now.

I don’t see any of my subscriptions at all. Whether they are local or remote, and if I tap on one which I favorited in Connect for Lemmy, I get an error.

I think the instance update broke compatibility with apps that haven’t updated yet to match the instance.

Something weird is definitely going on. I can see my subscribed communities on the web interface, but for some reason the API is returning an empty list. Something must have changed with the API in this release. I also notice a lot of my communities show 0 posts, even the one I created which I know has posts on it. And that’s in the web interface.

Edit: it looks like when fetching subscribed communities, the query param is type, where it used to be type_. 🥲 the sorting is also different. If your sorting is set to active and there aren’t any active posts, the list will just be empty. Change to new or old and the posts will appear again.

Ditto (memmy for me as well). Also I’m not seeing all my saved posts or total upvotes on my posts/comments in my profile.

Likewise, I can’t see a list of my community subs, but I’m definitely still subscribed to them.

I’m experiencing the same thing, but the last post in the community is from days before the recent upgrade.

It would be good if there were a sticky, not just with status, but with instructions on how to troubleshoot this as a regular user.

For instance, the community it’s affecting for me is /c/[email protected]

    So, I checked:

Is sh.itjust.works listed as a federated instance at lemmy.world? Yes. (But no software version is listed, a bit suspicious?)

Is lemmy.world listed as a federated instance at sh.itjust.works? Yes, it is running lemmy 0.18.1-rc.9-14-ge71951309.

Is lemmy.world overloaded? According to their monitoring they seem highly loaded with a recent 2 hour outage, but not completely broken.

Unfortunately, that’s the extent of the troubleshooting I know how to do so far, and it hasn’t gotten me very far. There’s probably more troubleshooting we can do before bugging admins.

What client are you running Lemmy in? Memmy, Liftoff, Thunder, and Mlem all have the same issue, but only with sh.itjust.works. Wefwef doesn’t seem to have a problem, but it is a web based client so maybe it’s different? Tho the other day wefwef had the same problem, but I don’t think I saw an update between yesterday and today, so I’m not sure what changed.

My best guess so far is it’s a client side issue, tho since it’s affecting multiple clients I’m not sure if I should raise the issue with the app dev instead since it seems to be more contained to the instance. Probably mix of the two is the cause.
