  • I saw that video the other day. While I think that it’s true that there are social reasons why people adopt their politics. You’re extending that fact a bit far to say that fact nullifies left/right understandings of politics.

That isn’t to say you shouldn’t have class solidarity with right-wingers. But it is a delicate situation because you also must maintain class solidarity with the groups right-wingers have been taught to hate.

There was polling showing Bernie ahead of Hillary in 2016. In 2020 I would say it was more manufactured consent for Biden. The corporate-owned media was repeating over and over again that we need to run the Hillary-esk candidate or democrats would loose. It was obviously BS that there was no evidence for it but people bought it.

Chris Mathew’s literally said if Bernie won he would be executed like the Nazis. Bernie is a Jewish man whose entire extended family was murdered by the Nazis.

You didn’t get your way and now you’re saying fuck vulnerable groups. If you’re willing to ignore a genocide for political convenience then immediately say fuck the groups you ostensibly claimed to protect you’re no less racist than the republicans. You were only standing with those groups because it was politically convenient for you.

I guess we’ll see over the coming years if liberals are actually against racism or if they’ll continue to run as fascist-lite and lose. This conversation doesn’t inspire hope with that regard.

No it’s not garbage, it’s democracy. Its messy, sometimes the out come isn’t what’s best. The people with the most power should be the ones responsible. You’re not going to bully voters into voting for who you want. You have to offer them a compelling vision for the future.

Kamala chose to not distance herself from Biden and the on-going genocide. She chose to snuggle up to Liz Cheney. She made a plethora of other dumb decisions. She was held responsible for those dumb decisions and we’ll all pay the consequences.

Do Liberals want Vance? Because not learning this lesson is how you get Vance 2028.

Refusing to learn this lesson from Hillary 2016 is how we got Trump 2024. Y’all were saved by the bungling of a once in a lifetime pandemic in 2020.

There’s all this talk about we need a left-wing Joe Rogan. We have one and his name is Joe Rogan. He was excited to vote for Bernie in 2020. But, establishment shills didn’t want Bernie so they put their thumb on the scale against Bernie in 2020 and 2016.

If you want democracy to be better/less messy there are plenty of fairly obvious small ‘’d” democratic reforms we could do. But most would require the Democrats to give up power. So those won’t happen unless you criticize democrats relentlessly as well.

So in summary don’t deflect blame front those with the power to change things and offer voters compelling vision for the future.

  • I mean that people responding positively to this meme have had their groupthink reflexes triggered by the closest (proximity) excitative buzzword and are chuckling along with the implications of that buzzword, regardless of how accurate or relevant the meme is as an idea.

All they understand is that there is supposed to be a joke, and they are content with that.

They’re mostly just being lazy/impatient and not explaining the full context of the meme. Mainly because this is a left-wing community and you keep defending centrism. We on the left can be impatient and hostile towards people who fence-sit especially on issues such as slavery.

I think there are understandable reasons for their hostility.

while a lot of your information is accurate in certain contexts, it is not the situation political context this meme is referencing.

This is a political community dedicated to criticizing the US’s authoritarianism. I would say criticizing the history of slavery and racism is relevant to that political context.

I like that you’re at least providing an entire honorable, relevant context.

    Thank you :)

  • nope, it’s conflating slaves and slave owners,

I can see that interpretation. If you believe that it’s saying the centrist is smart. It’s not, it’s making fun of the self-conception of the centrist as smart.

This is posted to c/usauthoritarianism, not c/lostcause. It’s making fun of the people who fence sat on one of the most authoritarian systems in the history of the US.

implying that centrists can’t tell the difference, which 1. is a problem a fraction of a percent of extreme conservatives can be theorized to indulge in, and in no rational, accurate way related to centrists.

At one point in time slavery was a central political discussion and was not fringe at all. Abraham Lincoln won the 1860 election with less than 50% of the popular vote. Most people were fine with the continuation of slavery as a system at that time.

At the time the centrist position was “popular sovereignty” meaning centrists would have allowed each state the right to decide for itself weather or not it allowed slavery. In other words the now right-wing position of “states-rights”.

In the grand scale of history slavery-abolitionism is a fringe far-left political position. But the left won that fight so now it is normal for nearly everyone to agree slavery was bad. Which is why centrists now believe slavery was bad. But at the time when slavery was a relevant political issue that wasn’t the case at all. Centrists took the position in the center of the 2 sides. The 2 sides were the slave and the slave-owner.

what i mean by what, precisely?

What do you mean by “proximal repetition”?

    Edit:fixing grammar
