it’s not satisfaction, it’s confirmation that the number is legit and being used. if you answer, you fuck yourself. not answering is the right call.

I do! I say hello and then put the phone on the table and wash some dishes at them until they hang up.

Annoying them and wasting their time is my gift to society.

This is not the best idea, when you answer they know it’s a live number. Your number will be sold and before long you’ll get even more spam calls. I love the feature on my phone that identifies and blocks spam calls automatically

Not a real option for me, unfortunately. I have kids, which necessitates picking up any old number in case one of my kids lost their phone and are trying to get hold of me by borrowing from a stranger.

Yes. They have it memorized. Me and their mom and each others’. I’m not talking about a theoretical scenario here. This happens constantly - usually due to them running out of battery.

Not very popular today, but I would recommend a dumb phone, the battery can last weeks with the additional benefit of not making the owner dumber (the smart/dumb phone names should be reversed IMO).

I get a particular spam call at least once a day. I recently tried answering, setting my phone under a pot, and banging the fuck out of it with a spoon. Modern phones must suppress sudden loud sounds though because all I got was, “I think you’re breaking up, is anyone there?” Highly disappointing.

Play the SIT intercept sound to them.
You know… the beeps with the message that says the line is no longer in service, etc.
Is they’re using an automated dialer, it’ll recognize the beeps, and odds are your number will be automatically purged from their list for a while.

A majority of the time, they require you to speak to a robot for a minute to get at an actual human being. Not to mention there’s a 50/50 shot that you’d be wasting the time of a slave held prisoner under threat of death. Unfortunately, there’s no perfect answer to this, aside from massive and immediate police and telecom action. However, I sincerely doubt that either will happen.

That might be the case, though often it is young people voluntarily looking for some easy money.

But either way, it’s not right what they do and every minute I take of their time is a minute they don’t spend scamming a more gullible person who does not deserve their savings stolen.

A lot of times it’s a call to see who is there and if it’s a real number. Someone who answers a random call is someone who the Indian tech support scammers can take a crack at.

Younger folks will just send a text.

The scammers are doing that with texts now too

I don’t even respond to or open texts from numbers I don’t know/aren’t expecting

      It’s it’s real/important they’ll leave a message or send a letter

Why would you answer an unknown number? Random good things don’t call. Answering confirms the number to scammers. Not answering greatly reduces scammers.

Everyone who needs me sends a text. If it is something actually important the party in question will send a letter in the mail.

I find this creates a very tranquil environment.

    “Lady”

That’s Gail Platt. She survived like three murder attempts, being married to a serial killer and unmasked two other killers, prevented two more murders and was exonerated for murder herself.

Holy cow. What a fury. Imagine being a serial killer and getting your ass handed to you by an empath…unless… she’s an even greater serial killer that gets others to pay for her murders. 😶‍🌫️

I just let the robot answer the phone, and more often than not scammers and telemarketers just hangup instead of trying to convince me to let them through the defenses. Plus, its nice when a vendor I use decides to cold call me for some bullshit, cuz then I can make a note of their number and not answer them the next 6 times they call.

Obligatory “There is an app for that.”

It’s called Should I Answer, and it checks numbers against comunity managed database and automatically rejects spam calls, or just gives you info on its rating.

Saved me hours of pointless calls over the years and few gray hairs.
