Be sure to tell that to your friend over at the teamsters.
The teamsters president is playing political games. They only want the PRO act. It wasn’t happening with only lukewarm democratic support, so by getting the Republican party to cheer about being “pro-labor” at the televised RNC, it pressures Democrats to chase the ball. Don’t believe me? Well it worked. Democrats were demanding a vote on the PRO act the next week.
The Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize Act, or PRO Act, is a proposed United States law that would amend previous labor laws such as the National Labor Relations Act for the purpose of expanding "various labor protections related to employees’ rights to organize and collectively bargain in the workplace.” The measure would prevent employers from holding mandatory meetings for the purpose of counteracting labor organization, and would strengthen the legal right of employees to join a labor union. The bill would also permit labor unions to encourage secondary strikes. The PRO Act would weaken “right-to-work” laws, which exist in 27 U.S. states. It would allow the National Labor Relations Board to fine employers for violations of labor law, and would provide compensation to employees involved in such cases.
I’m a Teamster (school bus driver, so we’re exempted from having to go break anybody’s knees at midnight) and the vast majority of my coworkers are trumpers, unfortunately. The Teamster prez may just be pandering to his own organization.
What exactly did that accomplish? Republicans are still going to filibuster it in the Senate and Johnson probably won’t even let it come to a vote in the House.

Something doesn’t sit right with that teamsters guy because he also said this:

You’re probably right although speaking at the RNC made it seem like he was leaning towards the GOP. It also caused at least 1 active teamster to think the right was pro union so I had to share the clip.

How does it sacrifice long term goals? He should be pressuring legacy democrats the same as Republicans. With this move he forced the Republican party to appear more union friendly and at the same time put a fire under the asses of democrats to keep passing pro-union policy wherever they can.
Considering how aggressive unions can be, I imagine the UAW leadership isn’t happy with the Teamsters union for the RNC bullshit. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of shit-flinging going on behind the scenes. It wouldn’t be the first time that unions have gone at each other’s throats.I hope they don’t start fighting though. While union support may be increasing, there’s still a risk that negative press could slow or halt unionization efforts.Edit: some other users have suggested that they may be playing political games to get the Dems to give them the support they’re looking for; which makes waaaay more sense than the Teamsters president actually supporting Trump.
The only nice things you can say about Trump or Biden on the issue of labor is that both were so bad for workers that it forced unions to become stronger by necessity.
And labor unions have.
I wish it didn’t have to be that way, but that’s life when all we elect are capitalists in service to the billionaire class.
Yea, don’t get me wrong. I’m voting for whatever democrat is available. But Biden sure did fuck the train labor union when they had a chance for negotiations.
Except for the part where he legitimately did push their demands through after signing an ugly bill that was necessary to prevent US infrastructure from shutting down entirely.

Note that there are some 12 “train labor unions” or so who were involved in the negotiations between legislators and freight companiws and themselves. I agree with you that this was received generally positively, but I need to point out that IBEW didn’t speak for all of rail labor and some unions weren’t happy in the end.
List of railway worker unions in the negotiation:
- International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Div. (SMART-TD)
- Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes (BMWE)
- Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen (BLET)
- Brotherhood Railway Carmen (BRC)
- Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS)
- International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM)
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
- Transportation Communications International Union (TCU)
- National Conference of Firemen and Oilers (NCFO)
- American Train Dispatchers Association (ATDA)
- International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Div., Yardmasters Dept. (SMART-TD-YDM)
- International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART)
- International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Blacksmiths, Iron Ship Builders, Forgers and Helpers (IBB)

Republicans in Congress pushed a bill that did not have sick leave. After the bill passed white house continued to work with the unions and helped negotiate their contract so they got what they wanted (other comments provided links confirming it).
I guess the Republican plan worked, as it looks like people still only know about the bill.
It’s true.
Can’t have the billionaires losing money they don’t need, after all.

Choo choo
It’s worth watching the video in the article. The UAW president is very well spoken and lays out clear goals in exactly what the union is looking for from our leaders.
Hell he is a damn viral infection of the worst kind. Contagious only to those who think they are immune to his brand of pestilence
