This was the .world one 5h ago, it went from 4470 to 4490 since then. They already had a lot of subs because that community was already made during the initial move from reddit but they had almost zero activity since then.
But yeah the .world community gained <100 subs from this move, and all those subs they had from before are probably inactive accounts.
I would focus more on active users, as you said subs are mostly ghost accounts
This really annoys me, because my attempts to get the high quality gifs community on .world just unlocked have gone unheard. I wound up making a new community on SDF. I guess you need a large subscriber count to get noticed or listened to.
I genuinely can’t believe moss said that, it was actually shocking to me. You had to assume it during the beginning of that thread, and people tried to give the mods the benefit of the doubt, but to just go full mask off and say “no the community is the mod team and we can do what we want with it” was just bonkers.
If this had been April 1st…
Or Worship Spez Day…
Then it would make sense, I tell you!?!? 🤡
moss stole our community pass it on
Do most people actually sub to things? Lemmy’s small enough I haven’t really felt the need to filter - though that does lend itself to situations like this, where my feed is utterly filled with this new community’s sudden surge in activity.
I do sub to things, it’s nice to open your home feed and not be assaulted by news posts about how everything sucks more every day. I never subbed to 196, though, because it tends to have a lot more posts than the communities I’m currently subbed to.
I’ve been subbing to some bizarre and niche feeds with an eye to the future on the off chance that Lemmy eventually grows into something massive - and they all get sunk under an avalanche of click bait and popular takes rinsed and repeated. Not saying it’s going to happen, but I’ll be ready if it does.
