Applied during COVID (2020), had to call in and provide more information. Aight. Waited on hold for hours and hours, over and over again, gave up. In the meantime, Florida said, “You legal to own? You good to conceal carry.” Aight.

Got a license in the mail today. Very legit looking. Holographic pic under/on-top of the state seal, top quality, etc. My pic looks like Rob Zombie, not sure where it’s from, but it’s clearly me.

The hell just happened?!

EDIT: Compared my pic to my DL, not even close. Maybe I sent a selfie 4-years ago? Maybe, can’t remember?

This guy is named and is legit: https://www.fdacs.gov/About-Us/Meet-Commissioner-Simpson

If I can conceal carry as-is, WTF does this do for me? State reciprocity? Make me more legit if I have to fuck with cops? Asking the next pig I see.

The actual license may be recognized by other states, allowing you to travel and still carry.

Just a guess, but sounds reasonable doesn’t it?

Yeah, kinda. I find it makes the encounter slightly less tense if I hand them my CC permit with my driver license vs. yelling “Hey, fuckface; I’ve got a gun”

Review state laws on how to interact with LEO. In my state I don’t have to say anything unless asked, so I don’t. It doesn’t really matter, they know as soon as they run your plates if you have CC. Typically they ask me if I’m carrying when they get my license

First, never take internet answers as fact, because skipping talking to a lawyer can end up making you need a lawyer.

That being said, while Florida has switched to no permit needed in state, as long as you carry and present on demand a legal ID, that does not extend out of state. You still need that permit for reciprocity.

I had heard that the backlog of old applications was moving along better there because there’s less applications now, leaving more manpower to handle things.

However, if you’re fucking with cops, you’re going to get fucked by cops. Remember, open carry is still illegal, and you must present ID on demand if carrying concealed. Just the permit isn’t enough. Iirc, you also have a duty to notify when carrying, so it isn’t like you only have to deal with it if they ask if you’re armed.

If its anything like Ohio laws it is proof that the govt gave you official permission to carry a gun in public.

If a cop runs your plate they will know you have a concealed carry licence and will assume you have it so keep that in mind if you get pulled over.

Also it would probably look better in court if you ever had to use a gun for defense. You’re not just carrying on a whim, you went through some effort to be legit and got a licence when you didn’t have to.

Reciprocity is a thing too. Your licence is probably recognized in other states so you can cross state lines with a concealed firearm no problem. Just research it first before you do because different states have different rules.

Well, define “fuck with” lol, but basically yeah that’s it. Some constitutional carry states still offer permits even when they aren’t required, for reciprocity mainly and for bonus “it looks good in court” purposes if ever forced to defend self. Some states will also let you carry in more locations that are still banned for constitutional carriers, but that’s sorta rare.

Better to contact a lawyer in your state and ask than a cop, cops aren’t even actually required to know the laws in your area. Even calling a local gun store and asking would be better than asking the cops tbh.

Great idea! I have Legal Shield so I can call a Florida lawyer and get a free opinion.

In any case, it’s going in my wallet from now on, because why not.

I think there are sensitive locations in Florida where you are not allowed to carry without a permit, even if a permit isn’t needed elsewhere in the state.
