What I find interesting yet distressing is that no one asks “WHY?”

What does an unelected outsider have to gain from getting access to SOURCE CODE of the US payment system (not just a running pc in the payment network, no, actual code is bring changed)

Why? Why demand code access and what is being changed in the dark hours of the night when there is little oversight?

And no; “because transgenders” is not an acceptable answer!

BTW… expect fully encrypted code where possible so no one else besides Musk can read it … think of the lasting repercussions of that … it’s a malware bomb on the governmental payment system.

Makes them more likely to decide it’s a better idea to nuke it and start over, I’m afraid.

We’re dealing with a group of smart idiots, who are good at what they do but nothing else; decision-making being at the bottom of the list.

Don’t buy the hype. Musk isn’t a smart idiot, he’s an idiot idiot. He buys successful companies for outsized sums and seems to be useful in leadership only when it comes to fundraising.

The other folks are mid twenties devs - those folks generally have eyes bigger than their stomachs. And the actions they’ve undertaken so far have been technically trivial and they’ve still fucked it up massively (specifically, they’ve had to send out several mass emails and hide pronouns on a lot of personnel pages).

I’m not assuming they can’t do damage. An untrained novice in a computer system can do a lot of damage… and a junior developer with the best intentions can do immense damage.

I’m sure some of these people are technically competent but without someone with a long view and experience they’re going to “move fast and break things” and when that thing is the national payment system it can get hella broken.

Just smart enough to be dangerous, unfortunately. Even starting over from scratch would take them years

Agreed. But therein lies the problem: whatever they shit out to appease musky is going to be detrimental.

How much are we going to have to pay to replace and or buff up all of our systems if this attack from within is ever ended?
